三.Sulfur is a harmful component in fuel oil, and its main hazards are:
1. The liquid sulfide (H2S, RSH mercaptan) in the fuel oil has an acid corrosive effect on oil tanks, oil pipes, fuel injection equipment, etc.
2. SOx is generated after fuel combustion, and sulfuric acid and sulfurous acid are generated below the dew point of sulfuric acid to cause low-temperature corrosion of cylinder liners, piston rings, exhaust valves, exhaust turbines, exhaust pipes, etc. In addition, the SOx discharged into the atmosphere will cause acid rain and harm the environment.
3. SO3, the combustion product of sulfide, can accelerate the polymerization of HC compounds to form carbon. It dissolves in the carbon scale and hardens, causing abrasive wear.
4. Due to the action of acid, the deterioration of crankcase lubricating oil will be accelerated.
So testing the sulfur content is very important.
