Saybolt Viscometer ASTM D88
The Saybolt Viscometer is designed and manufactured according to T 0623 "Saybolt viscosity test for asphalt (Saybolt heavy oil viscosity meter method)" in JTJ052 "Specification and Test Methods for Asphalt and Asphalt Mixtures in Highway Engineering". Saybolt Viscometer is suitable for measuring the Saybolt viscosity of asphalt at constant temperature according to T0623.
Working principle:
The Saybolt Viscometer measures viscosity based on the principle of fluid flow in capillaries. When a sample flows through a capillary under the action of gravity or at a specified pressure, according to Poiseuille's law, the viscosity of the fluid is proportional to the time it takes to flow through the capillary. By measuring the time required for a certain amount of sample to flow out of the capillary, the viscosity of the sample can be calculated.

ASTM D88 is a standard testing method published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for determining the Saybolt Viscosity of petroleum products.
This standard applies to both transparent and opaque Newtonian fluid petroleum products. Newtonian fluid refers to a fluid whose shear stress and shear rate are linearly related after being subjected to force. This includes various petroleum products such as lubricants, fuel oils, and crude oils. However, for some petroleum products containing a large amount of solid particles or non Newtonian fluid characteristics, this standard may not be applicable.

The Saybolt Viscometer consists of a water bath, a water bath temperature controller, and a measurement parameter display and calculation device (calibration coefficient, test duration, viscosity, etc.).
This Saybolt Viscometer adopts microprocessor control technology and has dual channel detection function, which can perform parallel testing on two samples, digitally indicate measurement parameters, and automatically calculate the average value of measurement parameters. The instrument can also convert the measured Saybolt viscosity into Engler viscosity or kinematic viscosity, so you can obtain three types of viscosity data from the test. It is efficient and reliable.
