Wax, Gum and asphaltene content in Crude Oil Tester ASTM D6560
Introduction:
The Asphaltenes Apparatus is suitable for the determination of wax, gum and asphaltene content in crude oil. The method is to dissolve a sample with n-heptane, then filter out insoluble matter. After the n-heptane reflux is used to remove the oil wax and the gum in the insoluble matter, the asphaltene is dissolved by refluxing with toluene to remove the solvent and the amount of the asphaltenes obtained. The other sample was separated by an alumina column and the toluene-acetone mixture was used as a dewaxing solvent. The wax content was determined by freezing crystallization. The gel content is obtained by the reduction method.
